2nd Autologous Stem Cell Transplant is "ON" - May 10 2012

Met with Dr. Myint this afternoon and the 2nd autologous stem cell transplant is a "GO". I'll be admitted to UCH tomorrow for a minimum of a 21-day stay!

The plasma cells in my bone marrow were down to 1 percent from greater than 50 percent at the time of my relapse at the end of February 2012. I still have abnormal cytogenetics of 1q21 (3.5 %) and 4:14 (0.3 %), but they are very low in percentages - hence, Dr. Myint thinks I'm okay for the second transplant.  (See actual bone marrow biopsy results below).

I will have eight days of conditioning chemotherapy prior to my 2nd autologous stem cell transplant counted at "MINUS DAYS".
5/11 Day Minus 7: Admit to UCH; Carmustine IV, Velcade IV; Dex
5/12 Day Minus 6: Etoposide IV; Cytarabine IV both twice a day; Dex
5/13 Day Minus 5: Etoposide IV; Cytaragine IV both twice a day; Dex
5/14 Day Minus 4: Etoposide IV; Cytarabine IV both twice a day; Dex
5/15 Day Minus 3: Etoposide IV; Cytaragine IV both twice a day; Velcade IV; Dex
5/16 Day Minus 2: Melphalan IV; Dex
5/17 Day Minus 1: No chemotherapy
5/18 Day O: 2nd Autologous Stem Cell Transpant where I will received the stem cells I donated last September 2011.
5/19 Day 1: Waiting for my stem cells to engraft which will take 10-16 days.

I can expect to be a lot sicker than I was during my 1st autologous stem cell transplant due to all the increased conditioning chemotherapy - oh joy~
