Relapsed High Risk Myeloma - Update August 18 2013

Woke this morning with such a ROTTEN sore throat that I needed to get a glob of old blood and mucous out - it just chokes me.  And it was a lot thicker than it looks in this photo. I had another episode while showering today,

I tested my blood sugar at 7:45 AM  (this the before breakfast check) and it was 128, so, I didn't require any insulin.

I was unable to eat my toast and barely able to down my 6.5 dex;. In fact, I had to give taking the pills a couple of tries.

Being a Type 1 Diabetic is  no fun - in fact, it might be a whole LOT LESS FUN than having multiple myeloma. I checked my blood again at 10 AM and needed 2 units of Novalog. Since I did not sleep last night, I napped several times today.

Jani worked on cleaning the barbecue on my back porch even though the air quality is so poor outside due to the Ketchum Sun Valley forest fire which has consumed over 100,000 acres and is TERRIBLE on the air quality ~ just 50 miles north and west of Mackay, Idaho.

I'm most likely a diabetic now because of the dex I take every other day. I had been taking 10 mg every other day and now they have lowered my dex to 6.5 mg every other day.

Slowly, my SORE THROAT has been improving today. I've had no more discharge from my throat since I showered.

  1. Hope you are feeling better soon. I don't know if I agree with you about being diabetic is harder than having Myeloma. I have been Type 1 since I was 14 & that is 45 years now. My daughter was diagnosed at 32 with Myeloma. What she has gone thru in the last year is harder than anything I go through. She had her 1 year transplant anniversary yesterday & is in Complete Remission. I pray every night that she will stay in remission. Being realistic though but always hoping.

  2. I also have to congratulate you for managing your Type 1 Diabetes since you were a teenager (age 14). I can be such a whiner sometimes and I apologize to you and your daughter.

Glad your daughter got Complete Remission - I'm assuming she had an Autologous Stem cell transplant and continues on maintenance chemo. I will think about her and YOU everyday.

Myeloma is so hard to ALWAYS be watching for.

I have been in RELAPSE for a year now, ane yet they keep me alive - even with platelets as low as 7. It is hard to stay positive, but I AM A POSITIVE gal and hoping for the best. Couldn't do it without my sister, Jani who can teach via internet for the most part here in Idaho from Colorado.

I didn't mean to insult you your your daughter about the Type 1 Diabetes, but it is quite hard to follow all the pokes and insulin dosages I require.

I'll be on Dex forever, so, it is probably something I need to concentration on. We go to St. Luke's Hospital in Twin Falls tomorrow and after I received my chemo, will see Dr. Martins, a diabetes specialist

Have a wonderful day and week Terrij and daughter. jm

  3. Didn't take any of your comments as an insult. I've just seen what my daughter has had to go through & from reading others blogs it seems like it is so hard. You seem to have had a really rough time. As a mother I just wish it was me & not her. Right now every day I just pray she will stay in remission although I know the reality of the situation.
I hope you can straighten out the diabetes situation & feel better. You have an awful lot to handle. I will keep you in my prayers.
